This document describes how to recover a forgotten or lost administrator password in the Resource Manager Essentials (RME) application.

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Releases 2.x of the Resource Manager Essentials product

  • Releases 3.x of the Resource Manager Essentials product

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Step-by-Step Password Recovery Procedure for Resource Manager Essentials

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in as a privileged user:

    • root—(on Solaris/HP-UX/AIX)

    • Administrator—(on Windows NT/2000)

  2. In order to stop the Daemon Management process, issue these commands:

    • c:\net stop crmdmgtd—(for Windows NT/2000)

    • #/etc/init.d/dmgtd stop —(for Sun Solaris)

    • #/sbin/init.d/dmgtd stop—(for HP-UX)

    • #/etc/rc.dmgtd stop—(for IBM AIX)

  3. Enter this text in order to edit the cwpass password file to change the password for user admin:

    • For Windows NT/2000:

      C:\> cd \Program Files\CSCOpx\lib\classpath\com\cisco\nm\cmf\servlet
      C:\> edit cwpass 
    • For Solaris/HP-UX/AIX:

      vi /opt/CSCOpx/lib/classpath/com/cisco/nm/cmf/servlet/cwpass 
      

    Here is an example of the cwpass file:

    RME Version 3.2 and earlier

    RME Version 3.3 and later

    admin:22335f595e::::F::

    admin:0DPiKuNIrrVmD8IUCuw1hQxNqZc=::::F::

    guest:::::0::

    guest:HE8Mbri/i78RzCrhzcxcXR86PBY=::::0::

  4. In order to restart all Daemon processes, issue these commands:

    c:\ net start crmdmgtd——(for Windows NT/2000)
    # /etc/init.d/dmgtd start——(for Sun Solaris)
    # /sbin/init.d/dmgtd start——(for HP-UX)
    # /etc/rc.dmgtd start——(for IBM AIX) 
    

    The administrator password is now restored to its admin default value.

    Note: To log in to RME as administrator, use Name: admin and Password: admin.
