Cisco Systems® is announcing the end of sale for all Legacy Interface Processors effective January 28, 2000. Severe component availability issues due to the age of these interfaces have necessitated this action. This completes the End of Sale process for all Legacy Interface Processors as detailed in previous product bulletins (#760, dated 3/98 and #867, dated 1/99).

This includes VIP2-15, VIP2-40, VIP2-50, CT3IP-40, CT3IP-50, FEIP2-DSW-2TX, FEIP2-DSW-2FX, POSIP-OC3-40-MM, POSIP-OC3-40-SM, POSIP-OC3-50-MM, POSIP-OC3-50-SM, CX-CIP2-PCA1, CX-CIP2-PCA2, CX-CIP2-ECA1, CX-CIP2-ECA2, CX-CIP2-ECAP1.
Product Migration Options
End-of-Sale refers to the time when certain products are no longer available for new purchases. It does not apply to the service and support programs for those products. Cisco will continue to support the Interface Processors after End-of-Sale through our SMARTnet® and comprehensive maintenance programs. Customers with either of these service contracts are entitled to free software updates, 24-hour phone support through the Technical Assistance Center, and advance replaced hardware for repairs. Comprehensive maintenance customers also receive onsite service. Customers who do not have a maintenance contract can purchase software updates and hardware repair services from Cisco to meet specific requirements rather than full service coverage. Cisco is committed to providing software support for a minimum of two (2) years and providing hardware support for a period of five (5) years after the End-of-Sale date.
Note: Cisco 7000 and Cisco 7010 systems using Route Processor/Service Provider (RP/SP) or RP/SSP processors are supported through all maintenance releases of Cisco IOS Release 11.2 per this platform's end of life (EOL) program announced 4/27/97, Product Bulletin #615.
Product Substitution
For Cisco 75xx Series routers and Cisco 70x0 Series routers equipped with the RSP7000, all Legacy Interface processors are replaced with a Versatile Interface Processor (VIP) and up to two (2) port adapters. At the time of this End-of-Sale (EoS) notice, the following VIP products are available as shown in Table 3.
Table 3 VIP Substitutions
| EOS Product |
Replacement Product |
Advantages of Replacement Product |
| CX-xxxx |
VIP2-15 and PA
