EOL5562
Cisco® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco ONS 15454E STM-16 SH, LH, and ELH 1-Port Cards. The last day to order the Cisco ONS 15454E STM-16 SH, LH, and ELH 1-Port Cards is April 12, 2008. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EOL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco ONS 15454E STM-16 SH, LH, and ELH 1-Port Cards. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
New cards, such as the Cisco ONS 15454E 12-Port SFP-Based Multirate Optics Card (MRC-12), at 10 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, offer much higher-value propositions than the outgoing cards. The MRC-12 accommodates Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) optics, providing higher port density and multirate capability per slot than the STM-16 fixed optics cards they are replacing. Both MRC cards support not just the STM-16 rate, but the STM-1 and STM-4 as well, scalable up to 10 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, depending on the card, slot, and cross-connect combination. The MRC cards also support SFPs of different reaches such as STM-16 SH, IH, LH, and DWDM. Plus, SFPs can be added to the cards as demand increases, and they are per-port provisionable, thereby minimizing the initial costs and simplifying operations. Wavelengths can, therefore, be added or changed without changing the card. The MRC cards can be provisioned for operation with SDH protection options such as unidirectional-path switched ring (UPSR), subnetwork connection protection (SNCP), path-protected mesh network (PPMN), two-fiber or four-fiber bidirectional line switched ring or multiplex section-shared protection ring (MS-SPR), 1+1 automatic protection switching (APS) or multiplexed switching protection (MSP), and unprotected.

The MRC cards can operate with the XC-VXL and XC-VXC Cross-Connect Cards. They require the Cisco ONS 15454E Timing, Communications, and Control 2 Card (TCC2) or TCC2-Plus (TCC2P) Card to support the data communications channel (DCC) capacity. MRC-12 10 Gbps requires Cisco ONS 15454E Sofware Release 6.0 or greater, and the MRC-12 2.5 Gbps requires Cisco ONS 15454E Software Release 8.0 or greater.
