Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® ONS 15454 OC-48 intermediate-reach (IR) 1310-nanometer (nm) and OC-48 long-reach (LR) 1550-nm high-speed slot optics cards. The last day to order these Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 optics cards is August 2, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until August 2, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 optics cards. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 IR 1310-nm any-slot and OC-48 LR 1550-nm any-slot optics cards, which can be installed in any multiservice card slot when deployed with the XC-10G cross-connect cards. These cards also are compatible with the XC or XC-VT cross-connect cards in the high-speed service card slots beginning with Cisco ONS 15454 software Release 3.2.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 high-speed-slot optics cards are the Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 any-slot optics cards (Table 3). The replacement cards can be deployed in the high-speed cards slots in systems with either the XC or XC-VT version cross-connect cards, as well as any service slot in systems deployed with the XC-10G version cross-connect card (software release dependent).

Customers may be able to continue to purchase Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 high-speed-slot optics cards through the Cisco Authorized Refurbished Equipment program. Refurbished units of the Cisco ONS 15454 OC-48 high-speed-slot optics cards are available in limited supply for sale in certain countries on a first-come, first-served basis.
